Passenger Rescue Operation After Ferry Bangaram Runs Aground Near Kavaratti
In a swift and coordinated marine rescue effort, all passengers aboard the ferry vessel MV Bangaram were safely rescued after the vessel ran aground near Kavaratti Reef in the Lakshadweep Islands.
The incident occurred when MV Bangaram, operating a routine inter-island passenger service, encountered shallow waters and became stranded. Responding immediately, the rescue vessel Virigili and the Lakshadweep Harbour Department initiated an emergency operation to ensure the safety of all onboard.
Thanks to the quick action of the crew and rescue teams, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without any injury. Preliminary reports indicate that no major environmental damage occurred, though minor reef contact was observed and is being assessed by the Lakshadweep Marine Research and Conservation Centre (LMRCC).
